World War 1 Memorial, Washington DC (Apr, 2008)

This World War One Memorial was erected here and dedicated in 1931. This memorial was funded by private citizens and was never a national memorial. Over the years it seem that it was almost forgotten. It sits right off the mall area but very few people ever knew it was there. All the years I’d walk by and visit it I hardly saw another person there. The pictures tell a story to me of forgotten history or care. It reminded me of the scene in Lord of the Rings of the future of Aragon after he passed and buried in his tomb of time fading his memory and deeds.

The good news is that there is now a planned National Memorial for their memory. The 2015 National Defense Authorization Act established the World War I Centennial Commission with authority to build a memorial. We shall see.
