We finally took a day and went to visit Cahokia Mounds. We’ve been meaning to visit for a long time and have taken some teasing from friends on living so close and not having visited.
Cahokia Mounds is amazing, simply amazing. The visitor center is great and the tours that are available were very informative. The volunteers that work there are very knowledgeable and not only for Cahokia Mounds but other Indian Historic Sites in the central states area. We picked up information packets covering several central states mounds sites. Because of this visit we knew to add several other Indian sites to our up coming trips.
Being able to walk the mounds and understand the cultures that exist was amazing. The excavated mound (#72) with over 36,000 marine shells and arrowheads. Amazing find and story.
