Our Great Northern Central Waterways Adventure, 2019 – Day 1

Our first long travel adventure was planned to last 5-6 weeks and our adventures would take us north to the farthest reaches of the midwest states to include Michigan’s Copper Harbor/Keweenaw Peninsula, Wisconsin’s Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Minnesota’s Voyageurs National Park, the headwaters of the Mississippi River, and then follow the Great River Road along the Mississippi River back down and home to St. Louis, Missouri.

Since we did not have a set date that we had to be home, we were able to meander and let the road, the sites, and the weather determine our path. With no set timeline, we could enjoy a slow pace. We were just looking to get away, and stay away as long as we could, from the miserable summer heat and humidity in Missouri.

Our first stop took us a few hours north to Bloomington, IL, to visit and have dinner with our friends Danny and Debbie. We have known them for years and have traveled and camped with them during Star Parties and other adventures. We camped for the night at Comlara Park, Hudson, IL. This is a nice county campground and we enjoyed the size of the campground with many areas to take long walks.

Next stop: Wisconsin Dells, WI–still searching for cooler weather!
