Bemidji and Itasca State Park (Labor Day Weekend)

Bemidji, MN: home of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox! (I’m a sucker for Roadside Attractions!) It has much more going for it such as Lake Bemidji State Park, Sculpture Walk, Mississippi Headwaters State Forest, colleges, and lots of beauty. I can imagine winters being tough here but the beauty, people, activities, and walking trails might make it a wonderful place. We had a great deep dish pizza at the Green Mill Restaurant! Itasca State Park: home of the Mississippi River Headwaters. Here I was able to walk across the mighty Mississippi river at its beginning. We visited here on Saturday during Labor Day weekend. According to park rangers, it was one of the busiest day of the year with lots of people enjoying the perfect weather! Normally I like peace and quiet, but on this day it was actually enjoyable to be among so many folks enjoying and photo bombing each other’s family pictures. Sadie certainly wasn’t the only dog there and she was happy with all the attention she received from strangers.

This state park is amazing with all its trails and its great lodge (Douglas Lodge). We had our late lunch there and thoroughly enjoyed the meal and time walking around the grounds.

Next stop: Minneapolis for site seeing and visiting friends.
