Yellowstone National Park: Ah, the beauty! This trip to Yellowstone was one that allowed us to spend multiple days at each of the lodges to explore the area and take lots of pictures early/late in the days. We had a great time doing this.
Walking out to catch Old Faithful erupting in the middle of the night with no one around. Watching the steam hide the brilliant starts. Going out at dawn to see elk around the hot springs. Staying out late to watch the sunset drifting down below the mountains at dusk while herds of hundreds of bison, elk moving across the area below us. Out early to hike the longer trails was awesome.
Yes, staying in the park is always the best whether tent camping or the RV camper or staying in lodges or cabins. It’s the best.
These are favorites of mine from all the Yellowstone 2005 galleries.
This is the largest geyser field in Yellowstone. They have boardwalks for you to walk among the geysers. Note for photographers: be sure to put a skylight filter on your lenses to protect against the acidic mists from erupting geysers.
These are Buffalo photos that I took on this trip. They may look like gentle animals, but believe me, we have seen a male bison rip limbs off multiple evergreens eight to nine foot high in a fit when it thought a truck had hit it's bison calf. It whirled, twisted and bucked and then turned it's attention on our truck to stare us down before moving from the road and area. Ask us for the full story! 🙂
The sparing Elk pictures were taken up by Mammoth Hot Spring area. Others were taken by the campgrounds and open areas. Some were taken out in the area where a male was gathering his herd of females.
This area is so different from the geyser. The bubbling mud pods and the mounds that they build are amazing. We have stayed at the hotel (cabin) here so we can be out in the early mornings and late evenings to enjoy the light on these formations. Note: Sever sulfuric smells!
Moose (2005)
Moose pictures that I took in Yellowstone. I was using a very long, long lens to take these photos. Please, do not try to get close to these moose to get a picture.
Old Faithful Geyser is always a favorite of everyone. Old Faithful Lodge is amazing also. We've had the privileged of staying here in the Old Lodge and in the Snow Lodge a few times. Early mornings and late evenings are some of my favorite times to be there. Also, dinner in the lodge is always a must.
The Roosevelt area, Larmar Valley and Lodge are the open field and lots of roaming herds. We have seen a few grizzly's in this area also.
These are photos of the various waterfalls located through Yellowstone.
What a beautiful place to stay. We have stayed at Yellowstone Lodge and also the rustic cabins that sit really close to the lake. We have taken cruises on the lake before and the morning sunrises are amazing. The colors!
